Tour de Farms

First Annual Whatcom Tour de FARMS

An extra-special day to head out to Whatcom’s farmland, with seven farms offering a day packed with guided tours, mouthwatering samples, cider pressing, cheese making, animal visiting, wine tasting, and meeting some of the people and places behind the smorgasbord you’ve been enjoying all week!

 

THREE WAYS TO GET THERE:
1. Go by bike!  Join an organized bicycle ride departing from the Bellingham Public Market, 1530 Cornwall Ave, at 9am, OR for a shorter route meet the ride at the Ferndale Farmers Market at 11am.  Suggested donation $7.  Sag wagon provided.
2. Go by bus!  An interpretive tour of three unique Whatcom farms by Bellair Charters, guide provided, 2-6pm.  Reservations required by calling (360) 380-8800. $8
3. Carpool!  Use the map to find your own way to fun and festivities.  Suggested donation $10/carload.

Participating Farms:

 

1.  Common Threads Farm

This educationally focused farm is a great place to visit with your kids! Potato harvesting, cider pressing, cheese making, egg collecting, animal visiting, garden-based art projects, u-pick vegetables and more.  The car ferry will not be running on Saturday!  Walk or bike onto the ferry instead.  A shuttle will meet the 10am, 12pm and 2pm ferries at the Lummi Island ferry dock, and the farm is less than a mile from the ferry, an easy bike or walk. 
 
2.  Boxx Berry Farm

Our farm store will be open with a variety of produce grown on the farm and brought over from Eastern Washington.  Farm tours throughout the day on our tractor wagon, as well as u-pick blueberries (weather permitting).  If you get hungry we always have ice cream from Edaleen Dairy or Strawberry or Raspberry Shortcake! 

3.  Ferndale Farmers Market
On the Riverwalk, First & Alder, 9am-3pm
Come check out this brand-new, energetic Whatcom County farmers market, the perfect Tour de Farms lunch stop by the river.  Our farmers, crafters and concessionaires offer a wide variety of tempting delights!  Cyclists can join the organized ride here (walking their bikes in the Market, of course) and skip the trek from Bellingham. 

4.  Lone Boot Buffalo Ranch

We’ll be giving Bison presentations on the hour from 10am-4pm, covering the history of Bison through modern day.  This promises to be educational and interactive for all ages.  After each talk we’ll tour the pastures and sample Bison products, also for sale.  Rain or shine, covered porch, water and coffee provided.

5.  Grace Harbor Farms

Tour the milking facility, the creamery and visit with the goats as well as chickens, turkeys, horses, and a miniature horse. Visit the store to sample and buy cheese, milk, yogurt, frozen yogurt and all of our skin care products.

6.  McPhail Berry Farm

Come pick or purchase our scrumptious berries, enjoy fresh berry pies, feed the animals, and go for a hayride around the farm!

7.  BelleWood Acres

Tour BelleWood’s orchard, gardens, packing line, juice line and bakery.  Sample our products in the farm store: “just picked” apples and pears, specialty cheeses, Honey Roasted Peanut Butter, awesome caramel and our bakery specialties.  Enjoy a fresh cut apple smothered with warm caramel….  Or just sit and smell the apples!

8.  Samson Estates Winery

Come tour the winery, and visit our tasting room and gift shop to
sample and purchase our wines. The perfect end (or beginning or
middle) to a farm-filled day!
